About Me

Hi, I am Fern, and I am a first time mum to a little boy named Oscar.

I decided to create my blog, mainly to confront the stereotypes of being a young parent, but also to vent about the highs and lows, because lets face it, it is bloody hard. At the time, I didn't realise that so many people were also doing the same thing, but I am so glad that they are. I used to think I was the only one who believed being a parent was sometimes a little bit shit, and I felt so guilty for that, and then I discovered 'The Unmumsy Mum'. The admiration I have for her is endless.

Before Oscar, I experienced both a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy. After losing the first baby at 11 weeks (the baby had stopped growing at 7), we decided we were going to try for another, and then of course, the rest is history.

I gave birth to Oscar in March 2016 via emergency ceserean after being in labour for over 50 hours, and I breast fed him exclusively for 6 weeks. You can find that post here.

As well as Oscar, we also have a cat named Luna who we accidentally adopted whilst I was pregnant. She is the most bizarre, dog-like cat I have ever come across, but her weirdness just makes me love her so much more. She provided me with so much comfort when I was pregnant, and every night she used to curl up on top of my bump and cuddle into me. Every time she purred, Oscar would kick, and it was honestly the best feeling in the world.

I currently work part-time and I feel very grateful to be in a position where I can, because I know so many people out there aren't. I would love to spend every single day with my son, but I am afraid Mr Tumble and baby babble would probably drive me insane. To the parents who stay at home with multiple children, I salute you. You are fantastic.
